Fasting Bowl II — Give Us This Day is a one-of-a-kind stoneware bowl bearing words drawn from the prayer Christ Himself gave to His disciples:
“Give us this day our daily bread.”
Part of the Lord’s Prayer, these words unite the ordinary necessity of nourishment with an acknowledgment of dependence upon God. Placed upon a vessel created for the fasting table, the inscription takes on a particular resonance: even in restraint, every meal remains a gift received with gratitude.
Created as part of The Fasting Table, the bowl brings sacred language into one of the most ordinary moments of daily life. It is a functional vessel, but also a quiet reminder that the Christian table—whether abundant or spare—can become a place of remembrance, thanksgiving, and prayer.

The meal becomes something received rather than assumed, and the table becomes a place where physical nourishment can point toward a deeper hunger for God.
Stamped into the clay, the words become permanently integrated into the vessel—an ancient petition carried into an object intended for everyday use.
Surface & Form
Individually formed by hand, Fasting Bowl II preserves the subtle irregularities and movement inherent to handmade stoneware. Its broad, substantial form is designed for functional use while retaining the presence of a singular studio object.
The exterior is finished in a subtle White Magma surface, lending the bowl a softly textured, mineral character, while the clear-glazed interior provides a smooth, luminous contrast. The inscription is stamped directly into the clay, becoming part of the physical architecture of the bowl rather than an applied decoration.
Created alongside the other numbered works of The Fasting Table, the vessel forms part of a continuing meditation on prayer, watchfulness, mercy, and nourishment.
