Frequently asked questions
A: At Oak & Scripture, the creation of your custom piece begins with an in-depth conversation where we discuss the specific scripture, saint, or milestone you wish to commemorate. Based on this, I design a unique hand-drawn concept for your review and approval, ensuring the design fully reflects your vision. Once finalized, the piece is carefully crafted from clay, carved, and etched entirely by hand to capture intricate details. It is then slowly dried to prevent damage before being fired in the kiln, resulting in a durable, permanent, stonelike finish. Throughout each key stage of this collaborative process, you remain actively involved to ensure the final piece is meaningful and precisely tailored to your expectations.
A: At Oak & Scripture, we are intentional with every finish applied to our pottery. Many of our pieces showcase the raw, matte surface of the clay, which we enhance using oxides that naturally settle into the carvings to subtly emphasize the text or imagery. When a design requires greater depth of color or highlights a specific sacred symbol, we apply carefully selected matte or satin glazes with a restrained hand to illuminate those elements without overpowering the piece’s natural aesthetic. This thoughtful finishing process ensures that each creation reflects both the material’s inherent beauty and the meaningful symbolism it carries.
A: At Oak & Scripture, the timeframe for completing a commissioned piece typically ranges from 6 to 10 weeks, measured from the date of design approval to the final firing. For customers requesting pieces to coincide with specific feast dates, such as Pascha, or important milestones like weddings, we highly recommend placing commissions at least 12 weeks in advance to ensure timely delivery. Each order is accompanied by a personalized production timeline, providing transparent expectations throughout the process.
A: At Oak & Scripture, to begin your custom project, we require a 50% deposit to secure your slot and initiate the design and craftsmanship. Once the final product is completed, we will provide photos for your approval. The remaining 50% balance is due at this stage, prior to shipping. We accept all major credit cards and bank transfers to make the payment process convenient and secure for our clients. This approach ensures full transparency and satisfaction before your handcrafted piece is delivered.
